Sustainable Veal

American veal production is a story of complete sustainability. We raise male calves from dairy farms that otherwise would be unvalued and unwanted because they do not grow up to produce milk.

Veal calves are fed using byproducts of dairy processing. Whey remnants from cheese production and skim milk left over from making butter are utilized to make highly nutritious milk formulas for veal calves. Otherwise, these ingredients likely would be destined for landfills.

Have you ever wondered what happens to the milk in grocery store dairy cases that expires before it is sold? We purchase and repurpose 80,000 gallons of milk per week – or 4 million gallons per year – into veal feed, where it is converted to a high-quality, protein-rich food for humans.

The animal waste created by veal calves is repurposed into crop fertilizer, replenishing the soil with important nutrients, and helping to grow more feed. Some of it also is recycled into clean, dry animal bedding to make comfortable homes for the next generation of animals.

The plastic milk jugs? – They’re recycled, too.

This full-circle sustainability makes veal the ultimate trifecta for environmentally, health- and taste- conscious consumers.
